"CHLOE" Directed by Atom Egoyan

I saw the trailer to "Chloe" awhile back and made the assumption that it was probably a Hollywood remake of Anne Fontaine's "Nathalie", so I waited it out debating with myself for weeks if I should go see it. Well after 4 weeks... I bought the movie ticket. As I sat in the theater waiting for the film to start, all I could do was pray for a movie that would be better than "Nathalie"..and it was!!! Well it comes as no surprise finding out after that Anne Fontaine was actually the co-writer for this feature film and that it was derived from "Nathalie". I hit bull's eye with my assumption here!

With the hype of "Clash of the Titans 3D" playing in theaters right now, "Chloe" can easily be overshadowed. But I didn't miss it at all! Directed by Atom Egoyan, with an assembled cast featuring Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried, this movie is definitely to watch! In this film, Julianne Moore's Character (Catherine) hires Chloe (played by Amanda Seyfried) who is an escort, to seduce her husband David (Liam Neeson) in order to find out if he is cheating on her or not.

The movie starts out with Chloe (Seyfried) narrating and illustrating herself working as an escort. Egoyan doesn't wait to seduce you into the movie, he automatically pushes the viewer into the realm of sex and desires. The movie's twist, aside from Catherine's attempt to find out if her husband is having an affair behind her back, is that she becomes emotionally fond of Seyfried's character. The relationship between Catherine and Chloe progresses and reaches a point where Seyfried's character becomes obsessively "in love" with Moore's character. This causes a dilemma that forces Catherine (Moore) to make a decision and to choose who she truly wants to be with.

The twist to the story was interesting but more so how Seyfried's character can be perceived. Chloe could be seen as psychotic and crazy or as this naive innocent young girl. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Chloe's desperation for wanting love, because really in her own world, she truly did believe she was only "in love". I was also really satisfied with how Egoyan ended the last frame of the film, which I won't spoil for you. One pet peeve though, why the suicide? It seems any movie involving any queer-based theme, seems to always end with a suicide. Anyways I have to admit this is probably the first Julianne Moore film that I actually really enjoyed! So I'm glad I caved in and watched it! It's definitely a movie that I will be buying for my DVD collection! 7.5/10
