"Secret Diary of a Call Girl"-Season 1 Review...2/10

I actually finish watching the first season of " Secret Diary of a Call Girl" like two weeks ago. The reason it's taken me so long to post a blog on it is because I've been debating whether to waste my time to even write anything on it. The whole series was lame! After watching two episodes, I just wanted to ditch it in the garbage BUT because I bought the whole season, I had to suck it up and watch the entire thing.

The first time I caught sight of "Diary of a Call Girl" was actually in the subway. There it was, this huge billboard ad with Billie Piper's face on it. That's what got me-BILLIE PIPER! I've been a HUGE FAN of Billie Piper since I was 12 with her music hits "Because we want to" and "Girlfriend"-remember those days? The first CD that I ever owned was "Honey to the B" and I remember having it on a repeat for hours on end. I even joined her fan site and was checking it everyday, doing the little quizzes and weekly draws. Oh those were the days where you'll find her posters and pictures all over my bedroom wall!

But then the 90's came and went and Billie Piper stopped singing. She disappeared from the spotlight for a few years and returned not as a singer but instead as an actress. She has been doing plenty of appearances on tv shows and films, with her most recent one of course "Diary of a Call Girl".

"Diary of a Call Girl" is about a girl who by night leads a secret life as an escort going by the name of Belle, but by day to the rest of her friends and family, she is just an ordinary sweet innocent London girl known as Hannah. The only thing that I liked from show was its theme song. Everything else was just horrible to watch and to even listen to. In the first episode, Billie Piper who plays Belle Du Jour/Hannah begins to narrate for you on what she does for a living, you automatically know, oh ok so this is going to be one those tv shows where the actors/actresses talks into the camera at you. I didn't mind it at first but then she just kept talking and talking AND talking!! Every scene was narrated for you or at you! For g-sakes! I get what's going on in the scene...I don't need you to illustrate it for me like I'm a moron! It's one thing to explain the situation but it's just plain annoying when you explain the obvious like why the guy's pants are off! I literally felt like I was watching something on TLC rather than Showcase.

The show tried to put on a positive and even an exciting spin to the idea of escorting. They tried to eliminate any concerns regarding "trafficking" by declaring first thing in the series that "Hannah/Belle" is doing the business because she wants to-not because she's forced into it, or has had a history of abuse or even a drug problem-she simply declares she likes having sex! Which is true on many levels for some escorts in the real world who chooses this occupation, but Billie Piper's acting does not convince me at all that she's enjoying anything! This was a bad role for Billie! Maybe she took this role to test her "naughty side" or maybe it was even a dare from somebody telling her she wouldn't have the guts to play such a role. But whatever it was, I wouldn't be watching season 2 anytime soon! ...2/10
